Adonis Stevenson planning on stopping Bellew quickly

stevenson5By Jay Kilby: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 19 KO’s) doesn’t plan on wasting any time this Saturday night against challenger Tony Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s). Stevenson was to KO Bellew within the first 4 or 5 rounds and then go home early without having to take a lot of punishment in their fight at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

A lot has been said about the big power that Stevenson has in both fists, as he’s knocked out 19 of his 23 opponents during his 7-year pro career. However, Bellew is also a very big puncher and capable of knocking out his opponents with a single shot. Bellew is known for his power and he’s one of those guys that can punch hard with both hands.

“I am training right this second and you can be sure that I am going to knock Bellew out,” Stevenson said to RingTV. “I think that the fight is going to go about four or five rounds and then I’m going to knock him out. It’s going to be with my ‘Superman punch.”

Bellew is very confident about this fight, and he feels that he’s seen something from Stevenson’ 2nd round stoppage loss to journeyman Darnell Boone from 2010 that he can exploit on Saturday night. The only thing that Stevenson showed in that fight was that he can be hurt when he’s in the process of throwing a punch with a shot that he doesn’t see coning. However, this is the same problem that all fighters have problems with, especially when they’re facing a guy that can sit down on his punches a little the way that Darnell Boone can when he loads up.

Bellew has power, there’s no question about that. But he tends to fight cautiously at times and he doesn’t always use his power to the best of his ability. For him to beat a talented fighter like Stevenson, he’s going to have to come out gunning from the very start. This isn’t one of those fights where Bellew can wait around before he opens up with something big in hopes of catching Stevenson. That won’t work because Stevenson will be landing his own big power shots from the start and he could get to Bellew long before he can spring a trap on him.
