Anthony Joshua vs. Dorian Darch on December 14th; Martin Murray faces Sergey Khomitsky this Saturday

joshua673By Luke Penhasi: Unbeaten British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (3-0, 3 KO’s) won’t be fighting on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. George Groves fight card this Saturday night in Manchester, UK. Instead, the Joshua vs. Dorian Darch (7-2, 1 KO’s) fight has been moved off the card to December 14th at the ExCel Arena, Dockland, in London, United Kingdom.

The Joshua-Darch card will be on the undercard of the lightweight clash between Kevin Mitchell and Brunet Zamora. On the same card will be Lee Purdy vs. Leonard Bundu, Luke Campbell vs. Lance Sheehan and Jamie McDonnell vs. TBA.

Joshua reportedly strained his bicep while training for the fight, and they didn’t want to take any chances of having him fight on Saturday and risk making his injury worse.

Joshua, 24, captured a gold medial in the 2012 London Olympics in the super heavyweight clash in winning four very close highly contest fights. There was nothing dominating in the 6’6″ Joshua’s performance in the Olympics, and he’s quite fortunate to have won the gold because many boxing fans felt that Joshua was beaten twice in the Olympics in fights against Erislandy Savon and Roberto Cammarelle.

Joshua turned pro in October and he’s had three easy fights against weak opposition with little power to speak of.

Interim middleweight champion Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KOs) will be facing Belarus’ Sergey Khomitsky (28-9-2, 11 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round non-title fight on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. George Groves bout this Saturday night in Manchester. Murray was supposed to have been facing Garth Woods, but that fight failed to happen. Murray’s fight with Khomitsky will be a mismatch due to Khomitsky being little more than a journeyman fighter that the top contenders tend to use to pad their records and sharpen up their skills. It’s kind of late in the game for the 31-year-old Khomitsky to be fighting someone like this because he should really be facing better opposition than this, but being that this is a last minute thing, it doesn’t matter too much that he’s been given an easy mark to fight instead of a live body.
