Khan wants Marquez, Pacquiao or Mayweather fights

khan67000By Steve Brooks: Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) says he could fight WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao for his next fight in November. If that’s the case, it would be a huge fight for the 27-year-old Khan, who has been after a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr for the past year without any luck. Khan hasn’t given up on his goal of trying to get Mayweather in the ring, but he’ll have to wait until next year for that to happen because of Ramadan.

Khan has his religious observance of Ramadan during September, and Mayweather plans on fighting next on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A Khan-Pacquiao fight prove to be impossible to make because of Khan recently signing with adviser Al Haymon. It’s unclear if Khan is also under contract with Golden Boy Promotions. If he were under contract with them and not Haymon, then it’s quite possible that a Khan vs. Pacquiao fight might get made. But there’s also the question of whether Khan is signed with Showtime, because if that’s the case, he’s not going to be able to fight Pacquiao on HBO. Pacquiao fights only HBO, so he’s not going to come over to Showtime to fight Khan.

In other words, there won’t be a Khan-Pacquiao fight most likely.
“I am looking at the likes of Marquez and Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather – they are the big names and that is where I belong fighting the top guys,” Khan said to Sky Ringside. “There are talks about Manny Pacquiao happening in the future – may be next. So I have left my team, Al Haymon and my team Khan Promotions to do everything.”

Khan can forget about getting a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, because that’s not going to happen. Marquez already turned down a fight against Khan several years ago, and he’s not likely to change his mind about not being interested in fighting him, especially given that Khan isn’t a world title holder.

Mayweather is looking to fight guys that can bring in massive amounts of PPV buys in the U.S, such as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. It’s unclear whether Khan is able to bring in a lot of buys because he’s from England, and there’s no huge British population in the U.S to purchase a fight between him and Mayweather on PPV.

One thing that could hurt Khan’s chances of getting a Mayweather fight is his fighting style. Khan moves too much, and he holds and punches his opponents a lot. He also has a bad habit of putting his opponents in headlocks and grabbing them by the head to bend them forward. Mayweather might not be too excited about fighting someone who uses those kinds of tactics.
