Eric Decker becoming Peyton Manning’s go to guy this season

decker62By Greg Aspen: The Denver Broncos signed free agent wide receiver Wes Welker thinking that he would be a good fit with Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and that he’d quickly become the Broncos leading receiver, but it’s becoming apparent that Eric Decker is becoming the go to guy for Peyton Maning on pass plays rather than Welker.

While Decker may not have quite as many catches as Welker does as of yet wit him catching 63 to Welker’s 68, Decker’s catching more and more passes from Manning and having big games like the one last Sunday where Decker caught 9 throws for 174 yards and 4 touchdowns. In the same game, Welker caught 3 balls for 38 yards.

Welker was New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite receiver for the last six seasons from 2007 to 2012, but instead of giving Welker the money that he was asking for, the Patriots let him go and signed an inferior wide receiver in Danny Amendola with a history of getting injured. It was a stupid move on the Patriots part because Brady even took a pay cut in order for the Patriots to sign players that they might not have otherwise wouldn’t afford. It was a pretty sad use of the money that Brady freed up because Brady could really use Welker right now, especially with Aaron Hernandez gone from the team, and tight end Rob Gronkowski still having injury problems every now and then.

In the Broncos 35-28 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, Peyton Manning threw 4 touchdowns to Decker with many of them being critical scores.

Decker is going to be instrumental for Manning as the Broncos go into the playoffs, because they’ll need a good receiver that can score touchdowns. For some reason Manning hasn’t really clicked with Welker this season like he has with Decker.
