The Baltimore Ravens (8-7) were totally blown out by the New England Patriots (11-4) by a 41-7 score on Sunday at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. The loss for the Ravens combined with the Cincinnati Bengals win means that the Ravens no longer have a chance to win the AFC North. They’re now just hoping to land a wildcard playoff spot at this point.
Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, playing with a knee brace on his injured left knee, had a horrible game in turning the ball over twice on interceptions and being sacked 4 times in the game. Flacco completed 22 of 38 passes for 260 yards, but much of those stats came in the 2nd half with the Ravens hopelessly behind in the game and with no chance of staging a comeback. Both of Flacco’s interceptions were picked off by Logan Ryan.
The loss for the Ravens ends their 4-game winning streak. The loss puts the Ravens in a situation where they’ll be very lucky if they can win a playoff spot even if they win next week, and that’s not a guarantee at all that they will.
The Patriots jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead over a flat-looking Ravens. The Patriots got a 1-yard touchdown run from running back LeGarrette Blount in the 1st quarter to go up 7-0. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady then threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Shane Vereen to widen the score to 14-0 in the 1st quarter. The Patriots added a 45-yard field goal by Stephen Gosthowski to make it 17-0.
Gostkowski kicked a 42-yard field goal in the 3rd quarter to put the Patriots up 20-0.
The Ravens got on the board in the 4th quarter when Flacco ran the ball in for a 1-yard touchdown at 9:21. Blpount then scored on a 7-yard touchdown at 2:05 of the 4th to make it 27-7. The Ravens replaced Flacco with backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who then fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Chandler Jones for a Patriots touchdown. The score was now 34-7. Tyrod Taylor wasn’t done making mistakes, as he was then intercepted by Tavon Wilson, who ran the ball 74 yards for a touchdown to make it 41-7.
Brady completed 14 of 26 passes for 172 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 sacks.
Tyrod Taylor completed 1 of 4 passes for 2 yards with 1 interception.
Blount rushed for 76 yards on 16 carries for 2 touchdowns.
Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman caught 7 passes for 77 yards.
Ravens receiver Torrey Smith caught 3 passes for 69 yards. Marlon Brown caught 4 passes for 51 yards.
